Autobiography of a Young Vampire, 1974–75
“Once upon a time a little Dracula was born in the small town of Wasco.” Lacy developed an “autobiographical” tale about her childhood as a vampire that appeared in published writings and that she integrated as material into a performance. She made a series of collage, ink, and gouache interventions into her family snapshots, using consecutive close-ups of one photo altered to reveal baby vampire teeth as imagery in Under My Skin: A True-Life Story.
