The many-sided history of a peculiar scene, from its emergence at the middle of the 1950s up until 1985 in Los Angeles. Over sixty artists, on a path which deals with topics such as the search involved in the art of assemblage, Pop art, Californian minimalism, conceptual art, performance, installations, video and experimental film. The transformation of art forms and concepts and the emergence of innovative art movements were concurrent with the establishment of new art venues, museums and galleries, and the growing reputation of Southern California art schools.
