The Circle and the Square
The Biennale of Sydney, Australia, 2018
The Circle and the Square, exhibited on Cockatoo Island is a multipart audio-visual installation that was made over three days in September 2016, when residents came together in the cavernous empty spaces of an abandoned mill in Northwest England. Installed in a large abandoned warehouse, the film resonates to the surrounding buildings with it’s intertwined shape-note singing and Sufi chanting. In another location on the Island, a Resource Room consists of a two channel video installation and a timeline of the history of racial integration in the region.
